Making regular fringe is easy with The Fringe Maker: Wrap fringe material of your choice around the narrow side of the Fringe Maker beginning at the center slot. Place a stabilizer such as bias tape or hem tape over the slot and insert center slot under pressure foot of sewing machine. Stitch down the entire length of the wound material. Remove from sewing machine. Insert scissors between the fringe material and The Fringe Maker along the outer edge of the device and cut. (See photos below.) Do this on both sides. Release the fringe through the center slot. Fold fringe in half- cut edge to cut edge. Stabilzer becomes the top of the fringe which is ready to affix to your project. Trim fringe to even out if necessary. Makes 18 inches of fringe. For longer lengths, leave last two inches uncut, slide them to the top of The Fringe Maker and wind again. Repeat as many times as necessary to reach desired length of fringe. You can also sew the fringe down the center slot by hand using the back stitch if you don't have a sewing machine or prefer to hand sew.

Making tassels is also fast and easy with The Fringe Maker (See photos below): Wrap material of your choice around narrow side of the Fringe Maker overlaping the wraps 6 times. Cut a 12" piece of wrapping material and tie it around the bundle of wraps at the center slot. Insert scissors between the Fringe Maker and tassel material at outer edge of the device and cut. Do this on both sides. Lift the tassel out through the center slot and fold in half. The 12" tie is now the top of the tassel that will be used to affix the tassel to your project. Tie a second piece of material near the top of the tassel, winding it around 2-3 times. Using a hand sewing needle, hide ends of second tie in the middle of the tassel. Trim to even out if necessary. The fullness of the tassel can be adjusted by wrapping it more or less than 6 times. The Fringe Maker can make many tassels at one time.

You can even maked looped fringe using The Fringe Maker: Step1: wrap desired fringe material as you would for regular fringe, not wrapping too thickly (see figure 1 below). Step 2: placing a stabilizer such as hem tape, bias tape, or ribbon over the slot, insert slot under machine (or by hand), baste down the center slot. (See figure2 below) Step 3: remove from machine and using 1.5" masking tape, wrap tape around the edges and press down on the tape making sure it sticks to the material before cutting (See figure 3 below). Step 4: Insert scissors at edges of Fringe Maker and cut (See figure 4 below).  Do this on both sides.  The masking tape holds the cut edges together after cutting.  Remove from center slot and fold in half. Step 5: pin all four cut edges together (See figure 5 below).  Step 6: sew just inside the masking taped edges (See figure 6 below).  You can serge or zigzag over the initial stitching to give the cut edge a finished look. Step 7: remove masking tape (See fugure 7 below).  Romove basting on stabilizer to release the loops. (See figure 8 below). Step 9: Affix cut/ sewn edge to project.
